Manchester United recorded a narrow 1-0 win against Liverpool to keep them out of the top four and keep rivals Manchester City in. It wasn’t the result Rafael Benitez was hoping for after the much hyped meeting with his American bosses. Not the ‘Howdy’ he will be hoping for. There seemed to be a defender blocking every Liverpool effort. The victory was as dramatic as last season’s John O’Shea winner at the end of the match, but Carlos Tevez punished them at the end of the first half. Sir Alex Fergurson opted to protect the one goal lead in the end, bringing on Carrick and John O’Shea. He was certainly a happy man, especially this season after the whole Gabriel Heinze issue before the beginning of the season. Sven Goran Eriksson will be pleased with the result too as Manchester City remain in the top four for atleast a few more days.
Arsenal and Chelsea was a match, all about grit and determination from both teams. Unfortunately for Chelsea, Arsenal welcomed back Mathieu Flamini and Cesc Fabregas, and Chelsea didn’t have Michael Essien, Franc Malouda and Didier Drogba. To make matters worse, Terry limped away in the 38th minute and was replaced by Tal Ben Heim. A rare mistake from Petr Cech gave William Gallas a virtually empty net to head against his old team in thee end of first half. There were bookings all over the place and both teams had a real go at each other. In the end Gallas’ would be the only goal separating the two sides and that result basically proves Arsenal’s credentials as serious title challengers. Draws against Liverpool and Manchester United, with a 1-0 win against Chelsea. I think it should be more like ‘Watch out Manchester United’ rather than most people saying it the other way around, init?
