Liverpool 1-0 Everton; Torres scores in derby

Fernando Torres

Liverpool pretty much sealed fourth place in the league with the win as that man, Fernando Torres has scored again for Liverpool. The 20-plus million pounds striker has been in fine form and Liverpool’s recent revival, bar the Manchester United game, has been largely thanks to the former Madrid man.

It was a close contest and a rare lapse in concentration from the solid Everton defence allowed Torres to get into the scoresheet early on in the game. On the other end Yakubu was kept quiet by veteran defender Sami Hyppia. It didn’t help Everton either that they were missing Tim Cahill and Andrew Johnson, hence reducing their attacking options.

It looks pretty much a done deal that Everton will not be breaking into the ‘big four’ this season and should look to start preparing for the UEFA Cup next season..
